In any event, our hair trial was done at Salon Studio 2000 of Miss Chinatown USA pageant fame. They were the sponsors and did the hair and make up for the pageant. While they are a little bit pricier for wedding-day-of services, the stylists were friendly and worked with us (me and my two bridesmaids) on what exactly we were looking for in our hairstyles. The hair trial itself was an alright price. I believe the owner of Salon Studio is Suzie, and she was there that day, but our hairstylist will be Hanh Tran. From Hanh's chatting with my bridesmaid, I learned that Hanh was one of 2 stylists from Salon Studio responsible for Miss Chinatown contestant hair (the rest of the people did makeup).
The first thing Hanh asked me was if I had an idea of what I wanted my hair to look like. I had known for a while what I wanted my hair to look like - the difficulty was trying to find a picture of the hair. I went through 2 bridal magazines (they came in handy again) and tore out pics of hair styles that were close, but not quite. But lucky for me, earlier that week, the SAG Awards were on tv, and I found the hair - Kate Winslet's hairstyle. Essentially: "a low bun that is soft and elegant with a touch of modernity." And being the obsessed Hollywood culture that we are, there a plenty of pics of Ms. Winslet's hair from all possible angles. One look at the picture and Suzie was like "oh, that's actually very simple and pretty." Hanh said "I'm not going to need this [the curling iron]." All about simplicity and elegance. Yay! I asked to see if they had hairpins with pearls and they were able to include that for me. Fini!
I initially contacted several other people for hair appointments; and while I was considering using the services of another company - that fell through because they were pretty flaky about getting back to me in terms of making an appointment and answering questions (esp vial email - in fact, I think the company still has not gotten back to me.) In any event, Suzie was responsive and helpful - so that made me choose her. I think our hair is in good hands.
