The search continues...
I've never been more frustrated at being Asian. In an effort to please the greater traditional powers that be, we have been searching for auspicious dates to get married. It's too complicated to write in words. This process involves using our birthdates and time and searching against the lunar calendar to see what dates are the most lucky for us to get married. The Vietnamese person said we had to wait until November for the 2009 calendar to be printed. Then we decided to ask someone from my side of the family. This process involved my two aunts, and Tony and I walking through Portsmouth Square asking many old Chinese ladies who were in the middle of their card games and looking for the lady who would calculate this for us. Her husband didn't want us to wait for her at their home, and sent us on a wild goose chase. My aunt didn't remember what she looked like, so her husband said to go around the park asking for her by name. After we circled the entire park because the gambling Chinese ladies had run out of directions for us to walk in, we walked back to her house to find her at home. This is after the strange next door neighbor let us in the building saying he didn't know their business, but saw a light on in their home, so they were probably home. After all that, we were told that we had to wait until the 6th month of the year (so June, and not 6th month of the lunar calendar) for us to get a calendar with next year's dates. Sigh. I'm sure by then, there will be more relatives involved as we all seek out the most auspicious dates.
