They finally met...

And we survived. It was a stressful several weeks of preparation, including ensuring a new couch would arrive (and an all out war of words with the furniture people). My dad, my grandma, my sister and brother met Tony's dad, mom and sister. The most surprising thing of all? Tony's dad spoke at least 3 languages, and 2 dialects of Chinese. The only person who really understood most of what Tony's dad was saying, was strangely enough, my father. Tony's mom, my grandma, the kids - we were all shocked at Tony's dad's fluency in Mandarin. He had been saying for quite some time now that he knew limited Mandarin only. My dad had told me that he too only spoke limited Mandarin. But the two of them had quite a number of things to say to one another. Tony's mom mentioned that the night before they was some concern about what we would talk about. Tony and his sister understood the Cantonese being spoken - they didn't understand the Mandarin. My grandma didn't really understand the Mandarin either - my father had to translate for her. Tony's mom only understood the English and the Vietnamese being spoken. It was hectic. I didn't go to sleep until 3am the night before stressing out about the event. The result? Well, we think that the details that my grandma and father were most concerned with has been hashed out. And that is that.
