My Version of the Story

I really didn’t see it coming. We had talked about it for a long time, and he said he was waiting for the perfect moment – so I figured the perfect moment was our anniversary (March 27). It was the furthest thing from my mind.

It was a beautiful day. We walked along the path next to the pristine beach in front of the Hotel del Coronado. We kept walking and walking, and pretty soon we had passed the Hotel. He asked if we wanted to sit down. I couldn’t believe it. There was an entire beach with the beautiful Hotel del as our backdrop and he picked there? (I realized later he was trying to find an isolated spot). So we walked back towards the Hotel and sat down to enjoy the view beautiful day.

He started talking about how we long we had been together. Since the 27th is our day, it made me a little bit emotional. He said he knew that he drove me crazy sometimes but he knew that I loved him and that he loved me. I started to cry a little bit more, and then it hit me that he might be trying something. He had the LOOK on his face. I kept peering over my shoulder to see if he was making any sudden moves, but I couldn’t see anything. I started getting scared. Just a few minutes before I was annoyed about where we were going to sit and now he was up to something. Then I saw the big box, and all I could do was stare at him. I watched him open the box in slow motion and I started to cry. I cried so hard that all I could do was cling to him and cry. While sobbing into his shoulder I told myself that I had to regain my composure so that I could respond.

And then I lifted my head and said “yes, of course.” Then I cried some more.
At some point, when the tears finally stopped, I looked at the ring. It was perfect. The moment was perfect.
